The Party for Freedom (PvdV) is rapidly gaining popularity in the Netherlands, according to a poll by Maurice de Hond. A prospective tally of seats shows the PvdV would get 32 mandates in the next legislative election, up four since mid-March. 5 april – Fredom Patry increases lead
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan rejected attempts to call Turkey the representative of moderate Islam. “It is unacceptable for us to agree with such a definition. Turkey has never been a country to represent such a concept. Moreover, Islam cannot be classified as moderate or not,” Erdoğan said, speaking at Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies late Thursday. Prime Minister objects to ’moderate Islam’ label
“There’s one school of thought that defends the position that Islam is a great and peaceful religion. It’s a religion that’s hijacked by a small number of bandits,” Hirsi Ali said. The school that “holds that ‘Islam is peace’ is the predominant view of politicians, policymakers, journalists and academics in America and Europe,” she said. Hirsi Ali then contrasted this view of Islam with the one to which she adheres.
“The idea is that Islam is not a religion of peace but one of conquest. It seeks world dominance by all means it can. Islam is seen … as a political theory that stipulates a form of government and this form of government is totalitarian,” Hirsi Ali said. “Reform in Islam is very, very difficult—if not impossible. For the true reformation of Islam to get any chance at all, the roots of Islam jurisprudence should be critically reviewed and revised by all Muslims,” she said. Hirsi Ali says Islam cannot be reformed
[…] As it turned out, Mr. Rasmussen didn’t kneel down and kiss the feet of his colleagues in Istanbul. He didn’t roll over and expose his naked belly to their scimitars. He didn’t prostrate himself and beg for forgiveness. But he came damned close. […]
It’s understandable that the Danes want to put the best face possible on this humiliating moment. They’ve invested a lot in their reputation as the sole Western country to stand up to Muslim bullying and extortion. But the uncomfortable fact is that their former prime minister came within a hair’s breadth of an outright apology, and all in order to advance his career as a senior statesman of “Europe”.
Fogh says that he is deeply distressed that Muslims were offended by the cartoons. But it wasn’t always this way. There was a time when something other than hurt Muslim feelings deeply distressed Anders Fogh Rasmussen. Once upon a time he was defiant when his fellow Danes were being threatened with assault and murder for exercising their God-given right to express themselves freely. There was a time when Fogh stood up for Grundloven, the Danish Constitution. But that was then, and this is now. Today, in his new elevated role as the head of NATO, he has to stand up for the sanctity of Islamic symbols.[…]
I don’t blame the Danes for wanting to salvage what they can from their richly deserved status as champions of free speech. But the painful truth is that Anders Fogh Rasmussen backed down from his principles in order to further his political ambitions. We needed a ringing endorsement of our liberties, and we got a wimp-out. Fogh sold his free-speech birthright for a mess of pottage.
He failed not just Denmark, but Europe and the entire West. He could have said, “F**k NATO! I don’t need this stinking job, not if it requires me to repudiate my Danish heritage!” But he didn’t. He hemmed and hawed and truckled and regretted causing offense to Islam. […]
One thing is for certain: from now on the primary mission of NATO will not be the collective defense of its member-states. Its mission will be to reassure Turkey and the rest of the Muslim world that we are good guys and love Islam and would never harm a single hair on any Muslim’s head. We are forgetting that Islam will be appeased by nothing short of our full submission – or death. Fogh’s Not-Quite-Apology
Bag sløret
Humorously reminiscent of Eric Fischl’s paintings of nudes on beaches, Haerizadeh’s portrayal of life on the Iranian seaside falls woefully short of good-fun naturalism. Rendered as a diptych, Shomal (Beach At The Caspian) highlights the inequalities of the sexes, comically exaggerating the inadequacies of dress code. As the men frolic alfresco in the surf and sun, the women stroll lazily in full overcoats or continue their domestic duties serving picnics in black burka UNVEILED: NEW ART FROM THE MIDDLE EAST

Bemærk i øvrigt billedet her: Den tidligere iranske præsident Khatami trykker Foghs venstre hånd.

[…] A group calling itself the Whitechapel Anarchist Group – or WAG – is using the ramshackle building as its ‘war den’, where tales of violence against the police and capitalist buildings are swapped. It was here that my infiltration began. During the secretive discussions in the shabby building, it soon emerged that this group was central to the violence and incitement which marred yesterday’s protests. At the first meeting, the leader of the bizarre group of misfits – mostly white working class British men in their twenties – revealed that he was taking orders from Chris Knight, a 66-year-old anthropology lecturer.
